The news that your client's server has suffered a significant software failure causing their Accounts system to become inoperative is never great news, when it comes on the first day of your holiday, it is really bad news. Whilst I could no doubt have fixed the problems myself, the connectivity at the campsite where I was staying was extremely poor, and progress on the problem was far too slow.
Normally this would mean suspending my holiday for a few hours and going elsewhere to get better connectivity and deal with the problem. However on this occasion, rather than interrupting my holiday I made a quick phone call to Chris Jessup of Network Security Limited and handed the entire problem over to him. I was completely confident that giving my client's passwords to Chris would be totally safe, and that he had the necessary skills to complete the job.
My trust was not misplaced, and I was happy to receive an email early the next morning to say that the problems were fixed and my client was up and running again. Furthermore the email contained information about the steps completed to resolve the problem, which is very helpful both in expanding my knowledge and reporting back to my client. Thanks to Chris timely work, the interruption to my holiday was minimal, and I could quickly get back to enjoying myself.
